NO LIMIT

I was introduced to the George Formby film "No Limit" in my early days as a TT Fan. In 1947 I went to the Strand cinema to see "Just Williams Luck" with my cousin and we, with our parents took up only six seats. When we went to see "No Limit" a couple of years later, we took up a whole row of seats since we were now a hotel group which went everywhere as a party. I can remember a pack of cigarettes would start at one end and it would be empty by the time it got to the other end.

I remember that we went one day when it was poor weather and we found our seats and unpacked our sweets and chocolate. The whole cinema enjoyed the film, evident from the outbursts of laughter, and we came out still giggling. It is a film everyone should see because it is the TT as it used to be, the sea front and the course have changed so much. See Onchan almost bare of house, the condition of the circuit, and the motorcycles themselves, like a different world.

Since my first time I have endeavoured to see No Limit every year since, taking people who not seen it. I enjoy seeing it through their eyes and am pleased to hear them chuckle at the same sequences at which I chuckled so many years ago.

I never met George Formby but I had a wonderful experience when I actually met Georges love interest Florie Desmond while I was in her area while I was a rep. She was so nice and we chatted about the Isle of Man and the role she had played. At the end of our chat she took my address and sent me a signed photograph with covering letter to say she had enjoyed discussing the film.

I have the VHS, the first DVD and the HDDVD versions of the film and show them at club nights and promotional functions.
