STARS IN MY EYES

It was in 1984 that I walked into the Press Office to pick up some results and media information -----I had a "double-take"!...... There, sitting in font of me was Anneke Rice, the girl from the TV programme "Treasure Hunt". She smiled and I said hello.

Then I was formally introduced to her by Peter Kneale who said that I could help...Help ? - with what, I thought !

It transpired that Childrens TV were making a programme about the TT and were "re-making" No Limit, combining the basis of the film with her treasure hunt concept. I was then introduced to another TV star, Roger Walker (Roger who was Bunny Charlson in the ill-fated soap Eldorado) who would take the part of a George Formby type character called Arnold Buggins. He was dressed in jeans and a superb flying jacket and was to ride a Velocette against the works machinery.

A number of exotic Island venues were used including a smelly steaming pigsty with real smell and steam, a hen house with real hens, the Airport with real air, the Faerie Bridge with real fairies and the Tower of Refuge with real refugees. Honest !!!

All supprted by a cast of thousands (of fans, fans pretending to be racers, real racers and boyscouts)

Well, after all sorts of problems and dirty doings with Anneke flitting around the Island "treasure hunting" for clues to overcome the opposition and find the kidnapped Arnold, Arnold won the TT, even though his engine fell out just before the finish. After crossing the line,Arnold went back for the smoking engine and carried it over the line. I enjoyed seeing this short TV programme being made and have a prime copy in my collection.

Anneka and I had a drink or two outside the beer tent behind the grandstand (I paid) - I was able to spend some time with her and I remember her lapus lazuli necklace....
